Treadmill Focus

The Pegasus system gives the stride characteristics of a horse when used with a treadmill, specifically stride rate and stride length. These results can be cross correlated with a 3D motion capture system if required. It enables you to carry out treadmill trials without having to spend time setting up the 3D motion capture system, hence allowing you to train more horses during the day.

Another benefit is that stride characteristics can be monitored for the full duration of any treadmill trial (up to 24 hours recording) and your results are ready within minutes using the supplied Poseidon software. Pegasus is an ideal training tool as the system has been designed to be simple to use, allowing anyone to carry out research or trials. Thus enables a greater knowledge of horse locomotion on the treadmill. Using other Pegasus accessories also enables comparisons to be made on stride characteristics between the treadmill and overland.

Pegasus is easy to use, only one small device that fits on the leg with the brushing boot. Press the button to start and stop recording. After recording download the data to the supplied PC and the stride rate will be automatically calculated.  The generated spreadsheet can be modified to include the speed data from the treadmill, so stride length can be calculated see graph below.

System validation The Pegasus system has been tested against a 3D motion video system and the results are within 1% for each of the main stride characteristics, namely, stride length, and stride rate.
